What would you have been if not a solicitor?
At the time a nuclear scientist, but with the benefit of hindsight a landscape gardener.
What has been the most memorable moment in your career?
Successfully supporting P&O Ferries in the seamen's strike of 1988. It was eight months of intensive litigation, the ultimate accolade being the union's solicitor describing me as 'irritatingly efficient'.

The House at Pooh Corner, especially when read by Alan Bennett

What is the most valuable lesson you have learned in life?
Always try to look at things from the other person's perspective.
